Key takeaways

  • “PET flakes” covers everything from unwashed crush to clean hot-washed flake — prices differ accordingly.
  • The biggest price steps are washing (unwashed → cold → hot) and colour (clear vs coloured).
  • Within a grade, PVC, moisture and consistency decide whether a cheap quote is really cheap.
  • Always compare quotes on the same basis: grade, COA, packing, delivery and payment terms.
  • Flake prices follow virgin PET, oil, the rupee and the season — so quotes are valid for days, not months.

Buyers searching for PET flakes price in Pakistan, PET flakes rate today or hot washed PET flakes price run into the same problem: one listing says one thing, the next says something very different. Export portals quote in dollars per ton, local dealers quote in rupees per kg, and nobody says exactly what material the number is for.

We produce hot-washed clear and coloured rPET flakes in Okara for fibre, strapping, sheet and packaging manufacturers. This guide explains what a flake price actually pays for — so you can tell a good quote from a cheap one. For the market forces behind the rate, see our companion piece on what drives rPET flake prices in Punjab.

The PET flake price ladder

From lowest to highest value, PET flake usually falls into these steps:

MaterialWhat it isPrice (relative)
Unwashed crushBottles granulated with labels, glue, caps and dirt still presentLowest
Cold-washed flakeWashed in ambient water; some glue and residue remainsMiddle
Hot-washed colouredHot caustic wash, colour-sorted (green, blue, brown or mixed)Higher
Hot-washed clearHot-washed, clear/transparent, caps, labels and glue removed, PVC controlledHighest

Each step up costs the recycler more — energy, chemicals, water, sorting, losses — and gives you material that runs better on your line. The difference between hot and cold washing is explained in detail in hot-washed vs cold-washed flakes, and the grade names used in the market in rPET flake grades explained.

Why clear flake costs more than coloured

Clear flake can go into almost anything — white and dyed fibre, transparent sheet, strapping, packaging. Coloured flake is limited to products where colour doesn’t matter or is dark anyway. More uses means more buyers competing for clear, so it carries the higher price. Clear bottles also cost the recycler more to buy, because collectors are paid more for them.

Five things that move a quote within the same grade

Same grade, different price — what to look for

✓ Worth paying more for

  • Low, consistent PVC — confirmed on the COA
  • Low moisture, dry and well packed
  • Consistent colour lot to lot
  • Clean cut, few fines and dust
  • Reliable monthly supply

✗ Why a cheap quote can cost more

  • No COA, or a COA from a different lot
  • Wet flake that needs extra drying
  • PP/PE, labels or glue left in
  • Mixed colours in a “clear” lot
  • Supply that disappears in winter

A few rupees saved per kg is quickly lost to filter changes, yarn breaks, rejects and downtime. The fair way to judge a price is the cost per kg of good output, not the cost per kg delivered. Our mill gate checklist shows how to check what you actually receive.

Per kg, per ton, rupees or dollars?

  • Local buyers are usually quoted in rupees per kg, delivered or ex-works.
  • Export listings quote US dollars per kg or per metric ton, usually FOB at the port — before freight, duties and local delivery. They are not directly comparable to a delivered local price.
  • Minimum quantities matter: a price for a full truckload is not the price for a few bags.

Buyers also search for the HS code for PET flakes. Recycled PET flake is commonly classified under heading 3915 (waste, parings and scrap of plastics), typically 3915.90 — but always confirm the exact code for your shipment with your customs agent.

Why flake prices change week to week

  • Virgin PET and crude oil — recycled PET is priced against virgin. When virgin rises, the recycled discount becomes more valuable and demand for flake rises.
  • The rupee — imported virgin resin and chips get dearer when the rupee weakens, pushing buyers towards local rPET.
  • Bottle supply — collection drops in winter, so bottle rates and flake rates usually firm up. See why rates rise in winter and how to time winter purchases.
  • Demand from fibre mills — Faisalabad’s textile cycle moves the whole flake market.

That is why we don’t publish a fixed price list: a number printed today would mislead you next week. Quotes are given for the current market, with a validity period.

How to ask for a quote you can compare

Send every supplier the same request, so the answers line up:

  1. Grade — clear or coloured, hot- or cold-washed, flake size if it matters.
  2. Spec limits — moisture, PVC, PP/PE, IV range if you need one.
  3. Volume — per delivery and per month.
  4. Delivery — your city and whether you want delivered or ex-works.
  5. Documents — COA per lot, TDS, a sample before the first order.
  6. Payment terms — they affect the price as much as the material does.

Then compare: price per kg for the same grade, the same documents and the same delivery terms. Our checklist for choosing an rPET flake supplier covers what else to weigh up.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of PET flakes in Pakistan per kg?
It depends on the grade. Unwashed crush is cheapest, cold-washed flake sits in the middle, and hot-washed clear flake with low PVC and moisture is the most expensive. Prices also move with virgin PET, oil, the rupee and the season. Send your grade, volume and city to +92 300 2504023 for today’s rate.
Why are clear PET flakes more expensive than coloured?
Clear flake can be used in more products — white and dyed fibre, transparent sheet, strapping and packaging — so more buyers compete for it. Clear bottles also cost the recycler more to buy.
Is hot-washed PET flake worth the higher price?
For fibre, sheet and strapping, usually yes. Hot washing removes glue and residues that cause breaks, specks and rejects, so the cost per kg of good output is often lower than with cheaper cold-washed flake.
Why do export listings show PET flakes in dollars per ton?
Export listings are usually FOB prices in US dollars at the port, before freight, duties and local delivery. They cannot be compared directly with a delivered price in rupees per kg within Pakistan.
What is the HS code for PET flakes?
Recycled PET flake is commonly classified under heading 3915 (waste, parings and scrap of plastics), typically 3915.90. Confirm the exact code for your shipment with your customs agent.
How long is a PET flake quote valid?
Usually days rather than months, because flake prices follow virgin PET, oil, the rupee and seasonal bottle supply. For regular volumes, agree a supply arrangement and review the price at set intervals.
